Nouveau Bourgeois Latin Immigrant That Learned Shopping And Has Good Taste: is part of a series of performances realized on the streets, buildings, malls, highways, houses, restaurants, concerts, in Virginia and in New York. I am including few views of some of the performances realized. Nouveau Bourgeois Latin Immigrant that learned shopping and has good taste, First performed at the Pottery Factory Mall in Williamsburg; Virginia in August of 2005. Performed in New York in Union Square in August of 2006. I stood In front of the Pottery Factory Shopping Mall holding a sign that said Nouveau Bourgeois Latin Immigrant That Learned Shopping And Has Good Taste. Each 20 minutes I changed clothes and stood in the same place again, for several hours, for several days during the summer of 2005. Nouveau Bourgeois Latin Immigrant That Learned Shopping And Has Good Taste In The Gallery And In The Concert, performed at Old Dominion University and at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, as well as in houses, restaurants, concerts, in Virginia, USA; in September of 2005. Nicely dressed I brought the sign that said “Nouveau Bourgeois Latin Immigrant That Learned Shopping And Has Good Taste” to different public places and events and joined people and their activities while holding the sign. I was studying the physical expression of my shifting identity within a globalized consumerist society, as well as the influence of the American society within my experience as an immigrant. Self criticism and humor are key in the conception and expression of my work. I am exploring issues of self-representation, cultural presence and social mobility through the use of color and texture brought about with clothing.
